MAGISTRATES COURT AND CROWN COURT
We also represent Client at both the Magistrates’ Courts and Crown Courts all over London and beyond. It is very important to seek advice early, as soon as you have been charged or summoned to Court as early legal advice and opinion on your matter can make a huge difference.
Magistrates Courts handle matters from the Police Stations as the first port of call, though not all matters are within the jurisdiction of the Magistrates’ Courts. The minor offences like Common Assault, Theft of items under £200, Motoring offences, Lesser Public Order offences, such as being drunk and disorderly, Taking a vehicle without consent, Obstructing and resisting a police constable, Assaulting a police constable, Criminal damage (up to £5,000) are dealt with at the Magistrates’ Courts.
Some other offences are either way, which can be tried by both the Magistrates Courts and the Crown Courts. Examples are: Theft from an employer, Burglary (residential or commercial), Fraud, Actual bodily harm, Grievous bodily harm, Drug offences, Criminal damage (more than £5,000), Sexual offences, Possession of indecent images, Affray and violent disorder, Racially or religiously-motivated offences, Dangerous driving, Death by careless driving, Witness intimidation, Threats to kill, Fraud.
There are also indictable offences which can only be dealt with by the Crown Courts. These are: Murder, Attempted murder, Manslaughter, Wounding, Perverting the course of justice, Conspiracy, Robbery, Rape, Aggravated burglary, Arson with reckless intent to endanger life, Blackmail.
